— No. 03 / Competition About our competition

The Floor
continues.

We, Daisuke Ono & Kana Nakamura, formed our partnership in 2011 and have competed in Ballroom (Modern) ever since. For us, competition is not only about winning and losing—it is the place where we keep renewing our own bodies and the way we hold each other, and it has always been, and remains, at the heart of what we do. On this page, we share our journey so far and where we stand today.

Competition pose
— Stance

Rather than flashy choreography or a single peak moment, it is the work of reclaiming, year by year, one thing at a time: that the breath does not break, and the hold does not break, across one whole song.

For us, teaching and competing are not separate activities, but two sides of one and the same pursuit. What we put into words in a lesson takes effect in the competing body; what the competing body discovers renews the words we use in lessons. That back-and-forth has been our past decade and more.

"Hold the breath
across one whole song."

Keeping breath and hold unbroken—
reclaiming it, one thing each year.

The road we have walked alongside competition, from the moment we formed our partnership to the present day.

2011

Formed our partnership

Daisuke Ono and Kana Nakamura began their path together in Ballroom (Modern) competition.

2013

JCF Cup, Rising Star — Champion

2015

JPCL Cup — Champion / JCF All-Japan — first semi-final

From this year we began studying in the United Kingdom and Germany, relearning from the ground up the holding and the movement that form the foundation of dancing. Winning the JPCL Cup earned us a place in the 2016 Blackpool qualifying championship.

2017

Asia Open (Taiwan), Professional Rising Ballroom — 3rd place

2021

Unified All-Japan Vulcan Cup — quarter-finalist

2022

Unified Show Dance Championship — 4th place

2023

London International, Over-35 Professional — finalist, 4th place

Now

Competing, and teaching

Based in Meguro, Tokyo, we keep dancing in competition while giving those days back to our lessons.
